Thanks, I'm still considering a Saiga myself but am still sitting on the fence. Think I'll dress this little 5.45 up and shoot it a bit and then decide what to get next. As far as the stock I'm sitting on the fence with it also. Would like to try the Tapco but I'm leaning towards the KVAR because of all the good stuff I keep hearing about it.

I really like the 5.45, especially the price of the ammo. It has very little recoil also. Was shooting some 1/8th inch plate at 25 yards yesterday that I had been using for my 9mm and 45, and it was punching nice little holes threw it.

Definitely a nice fun , reliable little rifle. Simple and mean like you said.

Well decided against the Tapco folding stock and went with a Ace stock with a modular no mod block to install it with. I did decide to stay with the Tapco forearm so I can mount a fore grip though. Now if all my goodies will hurry up and get here.

I've also got 4 more mags and pouch, sight tool, and a side mount-scope mount.

So I'll be able to get it sighted in and try a scope and a red dot on it. After having my Lasic surgery last week, kinda hard to stay focused on the irons. Thats why I can't wait to try a scope and a red dot as my focus will be way better.

My first trip to the range with these magazines like that ended up with a twice sliced thumb from when I cycled the bolt and caught the the right side magazine. Now the mags are offset to gain clearance on the bolt handle side. And all 4 mags are empty until I buy some more ammo.

I almost bought one of those "Dragonuv style" stocks and handguards. Is it comfortable to fire with that, or would you recommend putting a pad at the end?

And I'm with you on the low ammo end as well, I've been buying so much 9mm lately, I've neglected my 7.62x39mm. I'm down to 500 rounds of it.

Here's a write up I have posted on a couple of other sites:

I have gotten many PM’s both here and on other sites asking how I installed the folding stock on my SBR’d Draco pistol. Below are the steps I followed. Keep in mind, I did everything with hand tools (including drilling the receiver). If I were to do it again, I would either 1) send it to a gunsmith or 2) track down someone with a drill press.

Essentially what I did was this:

1) Line up the folding block on the rear trunnion and mark the mounting holes with a sliver Sharpie (the folding block has slots, so the holes don't have to be aligned perfectly even though I tried and failed)

2) Drill and tap the holes (I can't remember the bolt size I used, but I believe it was 10-24)

3) Align the folding block to the rear trunnion and place a locknut on the inside of the receiver (I used the closed end of a combination wrench to hold it in place)

4) Apply red loctite to one bolt and thread through the receiver, capturing the bolt with the lock nut

5) Repeat with the other bolt and nut

6) Attach the stock to the folding block

Minimal intrusion into the receiver (actually had the camera slightly forward so that the nuts would be visible)




Folded length with YHM flash hider (Phantom for use with a 7.62 QD can)

Thanks, and you're welcome. The difference is noticable (more so for the people shooting next to you), but the phantom tames it a bit. Much better than the barrel nut that was originally on it. Talk about a fireball... Even midday in the Florida sun!
