Pirate what type accuracy do you get at 100 yards? I rarely shoot past that and have read allot about AK 47's only holding about 4-6" at that distance.
But I could be wrong as I've just started researching it , and the AK 74/ and 47 have really got my attention. Have even thought about the AK47 that is chambered for the 5.56x45/223.
I really don't do a great deal of bench rest type shooting with the AK platform rifles since they shine at fun plinking/blasting kind of shooting. As far as what I consider real world/combat accuracy the AK74/5.45.x39 is very acceptable for this type of work and hitting a man size target out to 200 yards is not problem. When I sighted in the rifle out to 50 yards off a front rest I was getting 2-3" groups. But thats with a 1x no magnification reflex sight and spam can military ammo. The rifle would be capible with a 4X + scope and the right ammo to do 2-3" maybe better groups at 100 yards I would assume from my experience with these rifles. The reality is if you want a bench rest/target gun the AK will disappoint, but if you want dead nuts relaibility, extreme ruggidness, combat accuracy and loads of inexpensive shooting fun get the AK. I own AR's also but I find myself shooting the AK's more now, its cheaper and more fun IMO.

Pirate thanks for the info. I'm not looking for a target gun in the AK. But was wanting to get a ideal of what to expect from one so as not to be disappointed. I'm seriously considering a AK for my next purchase , and if they will do 3-5" at 100 yards I'd be happy. I 'm just kinda up in the air on which the 5.45 or the 7.62.
