    Scope info

I recently bought a Marlin XS7 in .308 and put a Nikon Bushmaster scope on it. I have not fired it yet. Will do so soon. I'm a hand gunner by trade. This is my first rifle.

Does anyone know a good website where I can get the basics of how and when to adjust the scope for elevation, windage, etc?

    Thanks,

    Doc

A little to add. Depending on the size of your target and the cartridge you are shooting, being an inch high at 25 yds could be off the paper at 100. For almost all centerfire cartridges from .17 to .416, including 30-30, adjust your point of impact to 3/4" to 1" low at 25 yds when your crosshairs are on the bullseye. For cartridges that are lobbing a hunk of lead like 45-70, 444 marlin, etc POI should be 1" high. This will get you within 4", high or low depending on cartridge and bullet weight, of a 100 yd zero.

Once I mount the scope I remove the bolt and sight down the barrel and get the crosshairs and bore on the same object. Then when sighting in I use a very large target so I am always on paper and can see what adjustments I need. The last scope I mounted took 6 rounds to get zeroed.
