Got my first SKS (Norinco) in '93 or '94 for less than $100. Got my first AK (Mak90) in '95 or '96 for around $250. It was on the last table I was passing on my way out of the gun show.

The rapidly rising prices are due to demand AND the diminishing value of the US dollar versus most foreign currencies.

Glad I got my Yugo for $120 when the gettin' was good!

Just had to have it , even though I was only at the GShow shopping for a bang around shotgun. Had the prettiest blonde, and I mean blond stocks I have ever seen. OTDoor price, $113
Yeah I bought one also back about that time frame - $110 or so if I remember correctly. At the time you could get the Chinese ones for about $89. I got the Russian with laminate stock, the wider bayonet. I got a 30 round mag (as a gift) for it before the Clinton ban but never installed it or used it. It came with a scope, also never installed that! I've probably only put about 200 rounds through it - most recently last summer when my then-13 year old son fired it for the first time.

    (It'll go in the will).

So the line not being able to buy foreign rifles anymore was crap? Whew - that's good; I should go buy one of those Mosin-Nagants I was looking at in Dunham's Sporting goods; they were about $89. Now if only I had some money...

I bought my Norinco SKS in the early 90's for around $125, I saw the same on listed on AIM surplus the other day for $400+

Why would you buy a SKS for the same price that you can get an AK for?

Decent models are going for $350 and up in Georgia. I bought two Russian models for $99 each in 1996. The GS had a whole rack of 'em. Shudda bought a few more.

I agree, unless maybe it just has a cult following? It is a hoot to shoot.

Whatever, it used to be that an SKS was a sort of 'poor man's' AK. Also, during the ban it at least had an internal magazine of only 10 rounds, maybe making it 'less evil?'. Although I believe it was still 'illegal' due to the bayonet...

One of my friends tricked one out with a fiberglass stock, etc. so the dang thing looks just like an AK.

When I had my FFl in the early 90's I remembering ordering them for $49. They would come packed to the gills in cosmoline but once cleaned up looked pretty good. I did have one that would fire two rounds off for every pull of the trigger but besides that I think most functioned really well. I remember Davidsons had them for I think $79 clean with a lifetime warranty.
