I have a Mossberg 500 that I'd love to attach my Fenix PD30 to. I'm not really a very handy guy but would like to try to attach the light myself.
Anyone have any tips for me on what equipment I'd need and where I can attach it on the Shotgun?

What if the Hokey-Pokey really is what it's all about?
I used something like this for my O light and PD 30. Went with the O light. Not the exact thing, but you get the idea.

Are you using the rear switch to activate it? That's what I am doing.

I went to E-bay and found a company UTG (under the gun) that makes clamps and things. I bought a rail made for the Mossy. It uses the four set screws above the receiver and the rail fits perfectly. To that I added a rail mount for a 1" light and I must say, it looks and works great.
The UTG mount is a good mount if you want to retain the heat shield on your shotgun. Just be aware of the aluminum threads if you are taking the mount on and off the gun when you clean it or remove the barrel. Don't over tighten it for the same reason. Once those are shot, you have to buy a new mount. You always do a barrel mount and keep the light at your fingertips instead of having to adjust your reach. The one below uses a steel thread insert that won't strip and you don't need to remove it when you remove your barrel.
that looks interesting, I'll have to give it a shot Thanks!
I have one of these Amazon.com: Shotgun Tri Rail Mount: Sports & Outdoors on my Mossy 500. You use a plain ol' scope ring to secure it. I have the PD30 also.....not sure it would fit in a 1" scope ring though. I have a Brinkmann Maxxfire mounted. Works great
If you want something that goes around the magazine tube, there is always the MT clamp. The screws on these also go into a steel threaded insert, not aluminum, so you never have to worry about over tightening and stripping the threads out. It also mounts the light where your fingers naturally sit on the shotgun, above center line of the forearm stock.
Here's a few pics of my setup; note the gun is new and black, it's just a wierd affect from the flash. Just phone pics but it'll give you the idea. My goal was an optimized balance between cost, simplicity, quality and function. I think I achieved it.
