I have 2 pistols that belong to a friend of my wife's late husband. She is wanting to sell them, but I'm no expert on old firearms and there values. The first one is a "Hi Standard Supermatic Citation 22lr" and the other is a "Colt Detective Special .38" I've looked their SN#'s up and determined they are both from the mid 60's.

The Hi Standard is in great condition for it's age, and functions flawlessly. I took the liberty of running a few mags through it this afternoon. The Colt has some pretty rough signs of pitting and wear, but appears to be in working order. I don't have any .38 ammo to test it.

Please take a look at the pics. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I found similar firearms for sale on various auction sites...
(Hi Standard $900-$1400 range)
(Colt's, in better condition of course, ranging from $400-$1000)

Representative Margaret Conditt (Butler County District 55) held a fundraiser at the Middletown Sportsmens Club on Saturday, May 12, 2012.

....................What happened? Rep. Conditt got an "accidental" assist from a group of anti-gun politicians and activists, including Ohio Representatives Ted Celeste and Tracy Maxwell Heard along with Toby Hoover of the Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence and Brian Rothenberg from Progress Ohio.

During a recent press conference, these gun control advocates launched a partisan and personal attack against Rep. Conditt, calling her upcoming fundraiser "distasteful" and "offensive,....................................... .......... gun owners and sportsmen around Ohio responded immediately, flooding Conditt's campaign office with donations and requests to attend her event.

.....................When asked if she ever considered canceling the fundraiser, Rep. Conditt said, "No. Not for even one second." Addressing the standing room only crowd, she smiled and said, "I want to thank Ted Celeste and Tracy Maxwell Heard for helping to make this fundraiser such a huge success."
My comment - what did you expect after the OC crowd started showing up to Walmart and Kmart with Shotguns slung over the sholder? There were smarter ways to fight this battle of rights, instead of just poking the eye of the giant.
[Excerpt]

The California state assembly approved Anthony Portantino's bill that would make it illegal to openly carry unloaded shotguns and rifles on the streets. So, more gun control laws in California. Who here is surprised? Anyone? Anyone?

An earlier bill spearheaded by Portantino banned the open carry of handguns. This new bill is just finishing what he started.

There is a faint glimmer of hope, however, as the bill has not yet been made a law; an approval by the State Assembly is just one step in the legislative process...........................................

I had a 642 for a year and sold it, I wanted a 357 Snubbie, I found a guy selling two S&W 649 revolvers, one that has never been fired, both were early 2003 test fired tags in the pistol boxes, both are in excellent shape, you can tell the one has never been fired.

I was wondering what these 649's are worth the one that has not been fired should be worth more, I just wondered what the price would be of each. I know price varies with location, if I buy them I would sell one and keep the other.

If anyone has a 649 or 640 I would like to know how you like yours.

So my brother stops by a semi-local Tractor Supply and tells me they have a pretty nice Winchester Gun Safe for $599. Anyone have one of these or can comment on the quality/value? The sales guy at the store said they sell a ton of them and usually run out before the sale runs out. It is rated for 1400 deg for 30 minutes. I stopped by and looked at it and it seems pretty good for the price:

Winchester® Gun Safe, 24 Gun Capacity - 1043297 | Tractor Supply Company

I asked about the $100 oversized shipping fee and he said they do not charge that if you pick it up in the store. $599 plus tax out the door.

My dad and I got our carry permits at the same time. I started carrying with a round chambered right away. I couldnt convince my dad to do so. He was convinced that he could draw and get one chambered just as quick as I could just draw. Im wasnt going to argue the point with him as that would be like fighting with a concrete block. He kept it in his back pocket(no pocket holster) which is fine if its not chambered. We got to talking again about it yesterday and you could see the wheels turning in his head when we talked at length about one in the pipe. He just didnt like the idea of a pocket holster. He wears suspenders all the time and therefore keeps his shirts in. And no IWB is not going to happen with this man. I told him about the small pouches for the belt, You know the ones that look like a larger cell case. Well he got one today and now likes the idea of having it on his side and NOW keeps one in the chamber. We talked about how the LCP didnt need a physical safety as the trigger pull was in fact the safety. I told him as long as the trigger is protected that the gun isnt going to jump out and start firing on its own. He loves the pouch to keep it in and I feel better that he is at the ready more now than before. I feel that the old man can handle his own if needed, now so more than ever.

OK, things have changed. I am now retired (and love it) and wearing a sport coat/suit coat is no longer a daily thing. For almost thirty years I have worn a pistol in a shoulder holster - most often a Galco Miami Classic. I still wear it daily but I am finding that my life style and the rising spring/summer temperature and my heavy sweating are causing my shoulder straps to get, well, they get soggy! Is there anything I can do to treat the leather and protect the leather from my sweat or are there nylon shoulder straps that I could use and adapt them to my Galco holsters. I carry on my hip or a SOB holster when I have to, but I much prefer the shoulder holster. Any suggestions for a guy who sweats like crazy?
