Monday I drove to Aubry, Texas for a 4 hour tactical handgun training class. My instructor Tate was a retired US Navy EOD officer and even passed buds training. To say impressive is an understatement. After the 4 hours and many many drills and run & gun situations I was far better with my pistol than I thought possible. I was able to do a .71 draw from holster in a ready position, hit a stanard milk bottle steal target at 100 yards consistantly, and multiple magazine changes while engaging 9 targets. The money was so well spent. I left knowing I can defend myself and family very confidently. It was even suggested I look into the private security business after my retirement next year. All of this with a Springfield XD sub-compact. 40 ca. But also wondering how much better I could have done with a full size gun. So now the search for a Sig Sauer p226 begins, maybe I'll make the Sig my everyday carry gun! I highly suggest everyone to take the time and spend the money taking one of these classes!

Oh well, I guess thats one way to weed out those who truly desire a CC and those who just "want" one.

I did add my name down to be called should they get a cancellation though. Hopefully I can get moved up lol

LET THE WAITING BEGIN!!!!!

I work for a small-medium sized corporation that has a number of brick & mortar retail sites throughout the state. On my days off I sometimes find myself heading over to one of these stores for odds and ends (I work at HQ, not the stores). The company bans employees from carrying firearms on company property, however there are no "No Guns" signs at any of the retail stores. Further, I know that most of these stores have had open carry people walk in, and no one bats an eye (employees, store manager, district manager, nor anyone at HQ when they hear about it).

So if I'm off the clock and at one of these locations, would I still not be able to carry?

I've noticed a trend and I hope someone proves me wrong. Being a new CPL holder, I carry a hi cap gun Glock 19 whenever I can and a spare with 17 rounds in it. Just in case. So 33 rounds total.

I noticed that folks that have been carrying awhile are switching to lower capacity pistols or revolvers (it looks that way at least). Or they run around with just a LCP. I've seen that here in DC and talking to the guys at LGS's around town.

My hope is that years of carrying doesn't make anyone complacent or too comfortable that people "downsize" in the name of comfort.

I wanted to that that if you are one who started out all Rambo but cooled down to a James Bond, what are your reasons? Or have you carried the same hi cap Glock/M&P/whathaveyou since day one until now?

Don't take this the wrong way. I'm not trying to make anyone defensive. I just want to know how habits change as time goes by. I'm not sure what I'd do in 20 years of carrying. Maybe I'd be carrying a PPK with no reloads too!

I guess as my first post, I'll try to make it a good one. I'm wondering what size handgun you all carry for a CC (ammo, pistol size, etc)

I do not have my CCW yet but am in the process out here in San Bernardino county. I'm personally going to be registering my S&W MP40 full size as my weapon. I've heard some negative things about this choice and some good things about this choice. I was wondering what you all carry around?

Oh, I'm Kyle by the way

Spectator Regulations - Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Had a great conversation with a Capt of the city of Speedway. For you novices, (heh-heh) the Indy 500 is not held in Indianapolis, the track is located in Speedway,In.

Since state law pre-empts local ordinance as long as the local ordinance is not more restrictive than state law, one can indeed carry at the track w/o the possibility of criminal charges if detected with a hand gun. The police Capt of Speedway agreed. A spectator can be asked to leave; but that is as far as it will go unless one refuses; in which case a trespassing charge no doubt will ensue.

What is interesting and what prompted me to call the Speedway PD was a old ordinance that prohibited CC in the city of Speedway..so just to be sure I placed the call.
The Capt indicated while the old ordinance is still on the books, it is NOT enforced. The ordinance is in process of being repealed.

So all of you heading to the track, CC w/o worry.

I just received my CPL for VA and am looking forward to finally exercising my right. The pistol is somewhat large in my opinion but I love it. Any thoughts on carrying this pistol? Pros and cons? Also, what is the best clothing to wear while carrying? I generally wear shorts and a t-shirt.

I just recently bought my first 1911 - the Ruger SR1911 Commander. It's a sweet gun! I've got 400 rounds thru it already and it's been flawless. I just love the feel of an all metal gun. It harkens back to a long lost era.

Anyway, I was always intimidated by the thought of carrying a 1911 concealed. Everyone says it's hard to do. I love my Ruger so much that I had to give it a shot. This thread is for those who wonder what carrying a 1911 would feel like.

First off this thing is heavy. 37 ounces unloaded. Close to 2.6 pounds loaded. But it's got a nice slim slide and grip. It was surprisingly comfortable to carry all day, although you do feel like your hip had a good workout at the end.

I carried thru the whole weekend with my Galco gun belt and Double Time kydex holster. It hid really well behind a loose t-shirt (1 size up) and shorts. I just had to watch it when I bent at the waist. Even at the extreme 3.30 position (almost 3 o'clock) the handle does print a little. Very similar to my Glock 19 in that regard.

I went around town with the family. Drove for hours, worked on my lawn. Almost everything. It was really really comfortable.

If I had to get used to one thing it would be the weight. Glocks are so much lighter especially my Glock 26.

But there's something cool about walking around CCing a 1911. It felt like a real gun.

Pics from this weekend:
