I'm wanting a suppressor on my ar. What all is involved with purchasing one? Is it as easy as ordering one from an FFL dealer? I have heard something about paying a NFA tax to have it cross state lines. Can someone simplify this matter for me?

Suppressors are NFA regardless if it crosses state lines. Pay the piper their tax, get sign off, wait months for their blessing and then you can have it.

Not any FFL dealer can sell you one, they must first pay the SOT. This is what makes them what is known as a Class 3 or Class 2 dealer. The SOT (Special Occupational Taxpayer) is a yearly fee that they must pay that is either 500 or 1000 bucks.
They do that for the "priviledge" of being able to sell you one. Without that little 8x10 sheet of paper on the wall, they cant legally do it.

if you plan to make several NFA purchases, I recommend setting up an NFA trust. This will make the transfer process easier, and, in the event of your death, little has to be done for your heirs to take possession of your NFA controlled devices, provided that they are listed as beneficiaries of your trust.
