most are 25 & 50--rather obvious they do not want to do it
as i've noticed about others--that they do not always do as i think they will nor often as they say they will.
this not only makes life interesting, it makes it dangerous too.
For Sale 1985 Toyota Supra. one owner, 82K, will pass inspection, only needs some body/rust patching
My buds got an FFL and he does mine for N/C for shot guns and long guns, I pay the $13.00 background check for hand guns.
Most small FFLs around here ( SE Wisconsin) are 25-30 bucks plus the extra $13 for hand guns. The big gun store chains are 40 bucks plus the background check which some mark up +$5.00 for $17.00 extra for hand guns.
I paid $28, NICS included, when I bought my M&P Shield last month.
Appreciate the feedback.
From reading some of the posts am I understanding this correctly...
In everyone's experience has the check been an additional fee when you purchase the firearm directly from the FFL Dealer?
Or is this only when the FFL Dealer is not profiting from your purchase and transferring only?
My local shop is 35 for transfers from one private party to another.
$15 transfer fee

The fees are for the transfer. If I purchase a firearm from the dealer they don't charge anything for long guns and only $13.00 for NICS ( hand guns) But I saw a couple shops in the Milwaukee area that mark up the NICS $5.00.
The transfer fees are for Gunbroker,Buds guns, aim,Mitchells Mausers,Gunsamerica......

so you guys in Wisconsin, there is a mandated fee for background checks???
as for the original question, I have never purchased a firearm through a dealer on a transfer only basis.
Transfer fees around here are generally in the 25 dollar range... Larger stores are 30 - 50 dollars.
The LGS around the corner charges 10 dollars for the average Joe and regular customers (like me) are usually free.
The only time I've ever paid a background check fee was way back when I got my ccw... Never when purchasing a gun have I been charged an extra fee for the five minute phone call.
