    Operation Choke Point

Here's an object lesson in never underestimating the audacity of tyrants. Where does the US Constitution give the DOJ the power to pick businesses to handicap? Mark Cohen has a beef with DOJ's inclusion of FFL's in its list of companies to monitor as "high risk".
Operated under a cloud of secrecy by the Department of Justice and in coordination with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Operation Choke Point forces banks to keep a closer eye on companies in industries that are deemed “high risk”, including gun and ammunition dealers, coin dealers, payday lenders, and debt consolidation service providers....

[L]awmakers have paid increased attention to the initiative because they believe it ends up ensnaring legitimate businesses by “choking off” their access to banking services – the lifeblood of any business.

On Friday, Missouri Republican U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer added an amendment to an appropriations bill seeking to cut off funding for Operation Choke Point. And on Thursday, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform issued a staff report called the operation “the Justice Department’s newest abuse of power.”
    Also:
The Times reported last week of gun retailers’ complaints that the administration is bypassing Congress and is using increased scrutiny by financial regulators to choke off their lines of credit and squeeze them out of business.

The report should have called the operation "the Justice Department's newest, but certainly not the last, abuse of power".

They call themselves "transparency" but it's a frontal assault on liberty. It reminds me of the song, "1984", by the band, Spirit that starts:
    1984
    Kockin' on your door
    Will you let it come?
Will you let it run your life?

Someone will be waiting for you at your door
    When you get home tonight
Ah yes, he's gonna tell you darkness gives you much more
Than you get from the light

Classic plastic guards well they're your special friend
    He sees you every night
Well he calls himself the brother but you know its no game
You're never out of his sight
Too many citizens vote for government that derives power from secret policing. I'm talking about both parties. NSA issues didn't start with the charming chairman.
It's alarming that neither party is now questioning the very principle.

    Fundamentally transform America.

"If someone gets into your house which would you rather have, a handgun or a phone? You can call the police if you want, and they’ll get there; and they’ll take a picture of your dead body."
