Safes and humidity
I keep most of my guns in a safe in which I used to use an internal de-humidifier ( low-heat rod ). I found that one of my leather handled knifes forcefully came apart due to the dryness and was worried about the gunstocks, so I unplugged that. Now I have an external electric de-humidfier ( floor mount type from Home Depot ) I'm not sure what relative humidity to set it at and wondered if anyone has a clue?
It's damp this time of year and it shows the room air to be at 67% relative humidity. I was thinking 50% or lower??
Thanks for any help..

Thanks Bosco, That'll be my start point then. When I lived in Fla., the A/C was always running, so the house was dry. Not so in Va.

We keep our unfinished basement dehumidifier set at 65%. Dry, but not wood-cracking dry.
Since the hose that usually directs condensate water to the floor drain is not working properly I've been pulling a couple of gallons of water a day from the unit. It is proving to be useful in the garden and flowerbeds.
