hi please clear some questions I have. I have a SP101 revolver, it is plain stainless steel non blued. 1. Do I still need to oil the outside surface? can it still rust? 2. I've heard not to store guns in nylon bags inside safe as they sweat that true? should I get silica gel packs or not use the bags? 3. Where can I get a proper sized steel brush for the bore? 4. Any product available that I can shine that stainless frame to like new again? thanks everyone.
Stainless steel is resistant to corrosion but will corrode if not cared for, a light wipe down with any good gun oil or silicone cloth will offer ample protection. If you do store it in a plastic bag then silica gel packs will prevent any moisture from collecting. As far as a bore brush stick with the phosphor bronze brushes, as they will do an adequate job of removing fouling and deposits. Do you want to polish it to a bright shine or just remove some minor surface scratches?
hi polish to a bright shine. Also is there a single video or book that is most recommended teaching cleaning a semi auto hand gun??? I see some that use a lot of oil, some much more sparingly. Videos almost always lack detail and good close ups. i'm afraid of under lubing or over lubing?? help lol....it ain't easy for a newb.
Any good metal polish such as Simichrome will impart a high polish but my personal is to leave the original brushed finish. As far as a single book or video to cover maintaining all semi-autos I am familiar with any, best to stick with the manufactures recommendations. For lube it is advisable to lube sparingly since too much will attract dirt leading to malfunctions.
