I just got my SP101 .357 that has a shrouded hammer. I was wondering if anyone has any experience they might share with me about cleaning an lubricating the area inside where the hammer is shrouded? I've cleaned the bore, chambers, etc. but not done any cleaning or lubricating around or in the shrouded area of the hammer.
Any advice or guidance would be greatly and sincerely appreciated. Thank you to all!
I'm not familiar with the SP101 hammer shroud, just the S&W Bodyguard design emulated in my Taurus, where the hammer is accessible. Simply blow any accumulated dust and swarf out occasionally with compressed air (canned air works well), and rarely - maybe a couple of times a year, depending on use - put a scant drop of oil on either side of the hammer so it flows down toward the hammer pivot. Certainly nothing exceptional in the way of care.
A nice cleaning every now and then will do just fine. These are built like tanks. I've had mine for years and it has taken a beating. People always talk about how reliable Glocks are but, I'll take my Sp101 over a Glock in a life threatening situation any day of the week...
A super easy revolver to take apart and clean. I'm a big fan of following the manufacturer's recommendation.
