    oil in barrels

    Hello all

What is your thoughts on oil/your lubricant in handgun barrels?

In other words on your carry weapon or any other handgun do you make sure your barrel is dry of all oil before you shoot it? Or do you leave a very light coat of oil in there?

    thanks all

After I clean my barrels I run an oily patch through and then a dry patch, sometimes two. I want a little oil in the barrel... but very little. Just enough to prevent surface pitting or rust.

We have a fairly dry climate here. After the cleaning process I get by with swabbing the bore of the firearm with a patch well-saturated with Hoppe's No. 9 followed by a dry patch. There's no need to have excessive solvent or oil draining away from a firearm's bore into other areas in the gun. Oil in a chamber has been demonstrated to increase the cartridge case's back-thrust against the breech face.

If a firearm is to be stored away for an extended period I've given a bore a light coating of RIG. Such protection should be swabbed out prior to putting the firearm back in service.

I use Gunzilla, and run a few dry patches through the bore before loading up.
