Loose front sight on Springfield Mil Spec

    I broke my gun.

Okay, not really. What did happen though is while dry firing, I heard the faintest sound a gun could possibly make that didn't sound like a slide-to-frame thing. After playing around with the various moving parts, I just happened to stumble across (by which I mean run my thumb across) the front sight, and it made that very faint little click I first heard.

    It wiggles now.

Specifically, it adjusts very slightly in all directions: up-down, side-side, front-back. It is seriously very slight, but it's still noticeable and has me concerned. I've shot once with the sight like this, and, well, it's still attached after a couple hundred rounds. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture because I have no camera capable of zooming in enough to show; the rear of the front sight lifts enough to expose just a little bit of light between the top of the slide and the bottom of the front sight, and the rear can lift enough to show likewise. It seems like whatever is in the dead center of the front sight is what's holding it in.

Thoughts, guys? Something to be worried about? Worth chatting up Springfield Armory about?

Call Springfield tomorrow and make arrangements to send it in, you should only have to ship the slide if they will let you. If you continue to fire the gun in this state, you're asking to loose the front sight.

This is a MILSPEC right? If so, the front sight is staked on and those style have been known to come loose on all different types of guns.

Agree with JD. Call Springfield and should only need to ship the slide to have the sight re staked.

Correct, it is a Mil Spec. I was wondering if the sight would come fully loose eventually. Oh well, a call to Springfield it is. Wonder if I can steal my dad's Bersa so I won't be without a carry gun while mine is under the weather.
