+1 to RetSupt99. Every time I shoot and if it's been a while at least once a month. I'm really picky about cleaning my guns. It takes all night when I get in the mood.

How often do you field strip and clean your semi handgun?
I have read everything from 5k to 1k rounds? Is it just
possible to clean the bore and inside a bit without taking
    the slide and everything apart?

Maybe I should just get a revolver..lol but, I want the
higher capacity mags I can get in the semi.
After every session, before I leave the range, I break the gun down for a quick clean, wipe off. When I get home, the toothbrush comes out for a more detailed cleaning.

Sorry if the question may seem remedial to some, but I am also new to the handgun, well guns period for that matter, and I would just like to know what exatcly the "wipe down" process consists of? I just ordered my first gun and I will be picking it up in a few days so I am trying to get all the help I can as a starter.

What kind of ammo you shoot can make a huge difference as well. If your buying bulk mil surplus ammo from overseas expecially.

Normally this means just an oiled rag or silicone gun cloth to wipe down the outside of the firearm. I do this between cleanings on guns that I seldom shoot. They seem to like the attention.

Either - every time it get's fired, or when I'm bored,.. Clean gun's are a good thing,. Dirty guns,. Ya,. not in my house..

Most all of my guns can be take apart and cleaned in about five minutes or less per gun,. That is when your taking your time watching TV... So what excuse is out there for not cleaning them..???

I clean them after each session at the range, or if not possible, after every other trip, this goes for my revolvers and semi-autos.

A do a detailed cleaning every time I shoot the weapon, and my carry weapon I do that and a weekly wipe field strip and wipe down with a slightly oiled rag.
