It ought to work just fine - brake cleaner might be rough on plastic parts and finish, though. Still, I don't see a reason to use this when specialized products are available that work really well.

I used some non chlorinated just a while ago. I cleaned the barrel before some bluing and it looks great.

Some marksman recommended against the chlorinated type-supposed to mess up the exhisting blueing.

Have noty used Mobil 1 but understand it works.

i work in a chemical plant that makes chlorinated solvents and you do not want to get them on plastic, and they will take of some black finishes. be careful.

I've been using Mobil 1 for lube on my G30. The guy I bought it from is a firearms instructor and certified armorer for his LE department and he recommended it. I've also seen it recommended elsewhere.

I've had no trouble with it and I don't expect to, either. I can't imagine that a firearm is going to get hotter than an engine, and it will certainly get cleaned more often.

Chlorinated Brake Parts cleaner is the same as most of the spray gun cleaners like Gun Scrubber and Tetra. Non-chlorinated are the same as Shotgun cleaners. The price from Auto Parts stores is about 2/3s less than "gun cleaners", $3.50 vs. as much as $10.00 for the same stuff. Read the label. For oil I use a homemade concoction of synthetic air compressor oil, STP, and mineral spirits. Fortunately the $50.00 a gallon oil is free to me. I would probably use Mobil 1 or another synthetic oil if I had to buy it.

I buy most of my gun cleaning stuff from the local Napa dealer. Been doing it for years. Its much cheaper and just as good in my opinion.
