Banning the IP is pointless, it's a Verizon wireless device that was being used "Host :242.sub-174-252-194.myvzw.com". Verizon doesn't give "static" ip address, so the next time this person turns that device back on, it will have a completely new IP.
The best suggestion is to use strong passwords. Far to many people used stuff like "fluffy" or "aspirin". Very short words that appear in any dictionary are easy to guess if someone is dedicated to doing so. Stronger passwords such as "5aU72Rty" will work much better at keeping bad guys at bay.
