Legit people will just sell their items somewhere else...

As always, it should be buyer/seller beware - nothing more/nothing less.

    +1 Agree!

And then, if and when someone lists something for the first time...who will be the first and take the plunge?

That's fine, they can sell them wherever they want, the Member buy/sell/trade section is for those that frequent the board. Sure there are some lurkers that will be inconvenienced by the whole 5 minutes it would take to cut and paste to welcome threads which pales in comparison to the post whores that have to reply to three pages of new member threads, most members that "fill up" the active posts are not trying to make 25 posts, they're trying to make 20 million posts.

JD, I understand - but respectfully disagree. If that were the case it would be the same people all the time, and it's not.

My point was aimed at those who seem to think post count makes them more trustworthy or that if you make it 25 posts they aren't here "just to sell stuff". It takes under 5 minutes to post 25 welcome to DC responses. I know exactly when a new member wants to sell something, because I'll see the same 'Welcome to DC from (insert location here)" post covering the whole active topics listing.

In 10 years I haven't seen a post count requirement as beneficial to anyone for any reason, but respect the decision on forums where it's been determined that 'x' post count is required.

I'll respect it, but I'll never understand it.

Moderation and registration requirements can keep the riff-raff out for the most part. After that it's hit or miss regardless of how many posts one conjures up.

Many of the forums I'm on (not firearm related, though) require 5 posts before any kind of URL link is allowed. The purpose is quite obvious as it prevents automated spammers from creating 100 fake accounts and spamming links to all of those wonderful "products" out there. By posting 5 messages first it would require a human being to actually engage in conversation. a spam-bot is unlikely to do that. The idea is usually to fend off the "bots" more than anything else.

Regarding who will take the plunge first versus overall post count:

If I were to buy anything from someone on line I would make sure that I have had some interaction with them. If I have not had interaction with them I would be looking at their posts to see if they are someone who contributes or just someone who puts "+1" after each post to indicate they agree.

Content of posts does illustrate whether someone wants to be part of what is going on or just be there...

As an example, I know deadguy due to many many e-mails and posts where we have shot the breeze. I would feel confident sending him a cashiers check for an item and knowing it will arrive in the condition promised & that it will be fairly priced.

Since I picked on her recently I will now be nice... Lima contributes constantly and puts time & thought into a lot of what she is posting. She is not just here to post, sell & bail. I am more likely to trust her on a transaction.

Since I joined adrick and Thunder have been posting pretty consistently and tryto engage in the conversation rather than just popping in a line & poofing...

You get used to seeing the same folks saying something rather than just posting. TO ME, that breeds comfortability.

Granted, scam artists try to get you comfortable before they take you for everything so my logic may well suck...

Russians,Chinese and Indians dont seem to last long here when they are selling something. For that matter, the ones from Africa that want to give you money dont last long either.

    Thats a good thing.

Now if they could figure out a way to keep the closet socialisticanti-gunners out of here it would even be better.
