I've been experimenting today with this, and it's not limited to just the bold, italics, or underlined. It affects all of the other reply tools as well. Not the smilies though......

If I click on any of the tools, this is the message box I get everytime. I'm sure the answer is probably easy, but I haven't found it yet.

Turn the election's in 2014 to a "2A Revolution". It will serve as a 1994 refresher not to "infringe" on our Second Amendment. We know who they are now.........SEND 'EM HOME. Our success in this will be proportional to how hard we work to make it happen.

    Mine is working just fine

The headers are [ ] before and after the text you want to highlight. Use a B,I, or U inside the brackets.

I just reviewed my settings and found this:

    Miscellaneous Options
    Message Editor Interface:
Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing
Basic Editor - A simple text box
Standard Editor - Extra formatting controls
When posting messages to the forums or other members, there are three interface types available to you. The simplest of these is a simple text box, while the last is a fully-fledged WYSIWYG editor, which allows you to format your text as you want it and see the results immediately.

Depending upon the capabilities of your web browser, you may not be able to use all of these options. If you experience problems when posting messages, try switching to a different interface type.

I have the Standard Editor button selected. Try switching and see if that helps

Yep, I tried all three of those and nothing improved. I don't think it is widespread member problem at all, rather than spend a lot of time trying to find it, for what few bold, italics and underlining I do, I'll just use the brackets manually.

Thanks for everyone's help <------manual brackets at work

I believe I narrowed the problem down. I typically go to DC through AOL's browser and at one time the bold, italics, underline functions worked. Not working now. Using the same computer, I decided to go to DC using Internet Explorer and the bold, italics, underline functions work just fine.

I still think it's related to my HD crash a while back, if I download the latest AOL version would probably fix my problems, no rush though, I can live with the manual brackets for a while.

    Thanks again.

    For instance:

If I'm writing a response to a post and decide to make part of it bold (or italics, underline, text color, etc) it doesn't work. I get a message box that says, "Are you sure you want to navigate from this page? Changes made in the editor will be lost. Press OK to continue or Cancel to stay on current page".

Neither Ok or Cancel do anything as far a giving me the opportunity to make something bold.

I can make it work by typing in [B] manually; or I can post my reply and choose to "edit post" and THEN it will work.

Why don't these tools work when I'm initially writing a post, I haven't changed anything (that I know of)?

Logging in, signing off, shutting down my computer hasn't helped.
I have the same exact problem Bro. When I first found this site everything seemed to work fine but for reasons unknown to me BOLD or ITALICS just don't no mo. I just *make do* with the *Star Symbol* like <<--I did right there or use ALL CAPS where I would have used *BOLD TYPE* and hope y'all get me/figure out I've adapted/overcome this glitch.

As I'm an old cat (60) and didn't grow up w/computers what I know about these confounded gizmo's I picked up here and there. All I can say is find a young guy/gal 22ish that's a 'puter nerd/geek to tell your problem to and possibly fix for you. But I'm just not THAT guy. Sorry.
Firing a suppressed is on my Bucket List.

I'm just a spoke in the wheel but not a big deal.

I have not had any problems like this...yet. If I start experiencing them I will return to this thread.
    Thanks for the heads up.
