Question Long delays -- anyone else experiencing this?

Have been noticing a lot of general delays while going from thread to thread, or moving about the forum. Delays run from 5sec to 60sec or so, typically, though not always. Problem strictly limited to the DefensiveCarry.com site, not showing itself anywhere else over the same time, even at the same time when a DC thread is taking forever to show itself.

Anyone else experiencing this, the past week or so?

It appears that it only happens to members with over 20,000 posts.

This evening there was a 2 hour time spam when I couldn't access the web site we use to place our food club orders. Never had much problem with this site, other than an occasional loading delay time.

Nope, haven't experienced any delays here. Doubt it matters, but I'm running Firefox.

I clear my browser after every session, which seems to prevent this.

Never experience that sort of problem but every morning at 6:30am ET, DC logs off briefly and I have to log back on.

I guess that explains the only problem I've noticed.

So it's not my laptop? Dang it, I've been trying to talk my wife into buying a new lap top since this things battery died 2 years ago and now I'm like a dog on 5 foot leash tethered to the wall, I think a wore a half circle out on the kitchen floor. I guess my excuse of the laptop being too slow won't fly now.

At least it's not as bad as signing up for Obamacare.

What most of you are probably are experiencing is Internet Latency (lag). This is not the general speed of your internet connection but certain events that cause delays in processing network traffic. These delays cause bottlenecks that can cause speed issues.

This forum runs on a server or a bank of servers some ware in the US. Network administrators routinely need to optimize their websites to keep them running smoothly From time to time this might require repairs to the database and even restarting the server. How a website maintains their system sometimes depends on their network engineers and sometimes problems (usually temporary) are caused by factors above an beyond the control of the person maintain the web server.

Bandwidth or lack of can be caused by a high frequency of users at a particular time. Another cause is streaming video in a particular area. Even weather can cause some latency issues.

These issues are beyond the control of the user in most cases although a slow computer with a high level of security that scans all incoming data can slow a PC to a crawl.

Ping testing a website can give you a clue as to where bottle necks are occurring. You can download a free app to ping any website here: Pingtest.net - The Global Broadband Quality test

Another popular program that can help detect latency issues are speed tests. It is recommended that you only download speed test apps from trusted sources that won't clutter your PC with junk you don't want. Almost all ISP's have a speed test. check with your carrier, such as, AT&T, Comcast, etc. This website is also reliable: Speedtest.org - Broadband Speed test
