What is this old gun worth

Sorry, no pics. I was wondering what a rusty old S&W Model 1 is worth. I think it is from the 1800's, and is a tip up barrel with 7 shots of 22. Just curious. Bunker

BBOGV (30th edition) says anywhere between $175.00 to $10.000 depending on a multitude of varibles. What issue, 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. Serial number range ect.

The $175.00 is for a Mod. 1, 3rd issue in 10% condition. That is the lowest value I see in the book for this model/run

According to the BBOGV, it says a Model 1 first issue, serial range between 200 and 1130 can easily exceed $10,000.00 in nice condition.

I think it would be in your best interest to seek a professional apraser, and DO NOT attempt to clean the gun or do anything that would change it's current apearence without the instruction of a professional or specialist on such matters. The gun is likely (by reading between the lines) probably worth several hundred dollars
    depending on condition, perhaps more.

I've see people ruin a $5,000.00 piece by cleaning and buffing only to reduce the value to a few hundred dollars.

Please! seek the help of a professional at this point. Don't get screwed or make a mistake by altering the piece. And I would seek the advise of more than one person too.

As for me, I know nothing of values. I can only relate what information I have available.

    Best luck!

    Craig

ps, feel free to PM me if I can be of further assistance..

Thanks for all the information. I will pass it on. I allready told him not to clean the gun in any way... i just talked to him, and he said there is very little pitting, and some rusting. .... supposedly was in a box in a basment for over 100 years!! He is bringing it to someone who can professionally appraise it. Do you know of any auction houses that deal with firearms? Bunker

For those who haven't seen one....here is a S&W Model 2...it is the larger caliber brother to the Model 1 (mod1- 22 rimfire, mod2- 32 rimfire).

You can see why it was called a 'tip up'....that was how you loaded it. The pin under the barrel was used to push stuck empties out of the cylinder.

This one is mine...it is a Civil War era pistol.
