Well got a call from the mother-in-law, 10mins ago. She found the box it came in, along with all the papers, and extra mags...He purchased it on a secret credit card she didn't know about...plus we're finding "other things" about him that's making all of us wonder about him. She called friend over and he varified that she is all good. WHew.....I was stressing about this.
She has POA and is now looking for a buyer. ClassIII of course.
Thanks all for the replies.
Frog... be sure to get someone to let you know what it's worth before your mother-in-law sell's to just any class III. IIRC, a select fire Ruger AC-556 can go for $10,000 range.
Btw... I'm glad to hear you guys found the paper work. I know it probably goes without saying... but make sure the Federal Tax Stamp documents are from the United States Government, not just a sales receipt for purchase of the weapon and manufacturer documents, etc.
Forgive me for being too specific, but you only said your mother-in-law "found all the papers." You didn't really specify, and with penalties as severe as they are... Well, just double checking you're in the clear.

Find a local attorney who knows about firearms and have him come out and look at it. Whatever you tell the attorney will be privileged confidential information. Then ask him for advice. It'll probably be worth the money. And if it isn't, maybe you can get the attorney to accept the gun as his fee.

Nothing I say as "user" should be taken as either advertising for attorney services or legal advice. Legal questions should be presented to a competent attorney licensed to practice in the relevant state.
