An observation on TV & Movie shooters

While watching any TV show or movie with any type of shooting, I pay close attention to how the actor or actress is holding the firearm, firing etc., to see if they have actually had some sort of training or instruction, or are just doing the "Hollywood" version of grab it and shoot it.

More and more with the newer shows I see proper trigger finger placement when not actively shooting, and oddly enough a basic following of the 4 golden rules.

I have also noticed a disproportionate number of left handed shooters. That one I found to be very odd. I wonder if it is a Left brain/Right brain thingy with being an actor/actress.

Since most actors and actresses lean to the left. It would only make sense they would shoot left handed!

Yeah its interesting the number of actors/actresses that get hands-on live fire training while preparing for a role... go on youtube & look up the behind the scenes of "Miami Vice" with Collen Farrel & Jamie Foxx...

Watch any 'cop' show and you will notice one officer sweeping another at at least one point in each episode. For sure you will see it anytime they make some sort of entry...

Good point. They want to act the part but won't live the part.

You might want to re-read my post. I didn't say all actors and actresses, I said most.

About half of your list are not actors, they're sports and business figures. As for Schwarzenegger and Stallone, they may be Republicans, but both are far from being Pro 2A.

    I saw the "most".

And my list is far from being anything exhaustive or accurate, it's simply a cut and paste from the first thing that Google popped up.

My point, and it's apparently too subtle, is that this left/right thing is silly, inaccurate, and borderline superstitious. There is a lot of grey area, and to think that either extreme is a solution to anything is pretty frightening.

And it's the right half of the brain that controls the left hand. That ought to really get you black and white thinkers all hosed up.

But then again, I shoot equally well with both hands, so what do I know?

As a Southpaw, I'm not sure how I feel about this. Am I predestined to be an actor?

Watched "Bounty Hunter" this weekend. Gerard Butler had his finger on the trigger the whole time!

I also saw the Bounty Hunter, I was to busy re-evaluating why I'm with my girlfriend to notice proper technique. Though the fact he stuck a loaded gun in her face at more than one time to "make a point" seems a bit more obvious than any trigger placement. In the end I hated the movie, forgave my girl for the lousy movie choice and wonder what craptacular chick flick Butler will show up in next.

Edit: Also, Bounty Hunter aside Hollywood has gotten better. They do make mistakes, but it's a lot better than it was back in the early 90's late 80's.

The new Bounty Hunter movie with Jennifer Anniston and thet Scottish guy bothered me the whole time.

He held the glock in such an unsafe way EVERY time.

It doesn't bother me too much when the "Joe Everyman" character picks up a gun and exercises blatant ignorance because Joe Everyman is, typically, a moron. But it does bug me when the character is supposed to know what he/she is doing and still does everything wrong.

Come to think of it, that kind of thing bugs me whether it's guns or anything else. Ever notice how a gunshot in a crowded scene immediately sends the milling throng into a scattering panic?

More annoying to me is when they pull it from their holster and "cock" the gun. I dont remember what show I was watching the other day and the officer pulled out a Glock style handgun and power stroked it right out of the holster before going in on some bad guy. I face palmed then changed the channel. Pulling the hammer back right out of the holster usually warrants a similar response from me.
