Are all new guns purchased from a FFL registered to the person purchasing the gun? or does it vary from state to state? Ohio is the state in question. Or better yet has my father been watching too much CSI?
The guns are registered to the dealer, if the ATF asks the dealer must provide who he sold it too. The gun is not registered to the person who bought it unless there are special circumstances (it being a class II or III weapon)

Thanks so if my dad sells his gun privately and it passes on thru many other hands and then used in a crime its not very likely he will ever know about it.
Well if he is the original buyer of the gun the FFL dealer will have that record for 90 days after that there is no permanent record of that transaction.
As a personal matter I am realy choosey about who I sell my guns too, because if the buyer is a felon and they turn you in to get off of a fedearl firearms rap, then the ATF could come after you.
