    phoenix hp22a

I was looking for a cheap .22lr that I can bring to the range and extend the fun and not spending a lot more money. I found this Phoenix HP22a for $110-130 with a life time warranty. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this little pistol? I figure it small enough when I get my CCW permit I can have this in my pocket for a back up too.

I had a chance to shoot one a guy had at the indoor range I go to. I had let him shoot my Ruger 22/45 and I put 2 mags through the Phoenix. All in all it seemed like an OK little gun, especially for the price. No failures, and seemed decently built. I'd bite for $110.

I got a stainless one years ago, still works fine. The extra 'safety' switches on it can get confusing, and be a minor inconvenience. The gun is actually pretty accurate out of the box. I also picked-up a 'target conversion' for it at a gun show, 5 in. barrel and mag with finger extension.
Overall, for the price, it's a decent plinker. I certainly wouldn't trust my life to it, but for some inexpensive fun it works fine.

Also be sure to research any safety issues before carrying - some of these "ring of fire" guns are not drop-safe. Not sure about this particular model.

The ergonomics of the extra (and exsessive) safties would make me reluctant to use it for a SD gun before you take into account the quality and the caliber. I don't necessarily have a problem with a .22 for SD but it would factor into the decision a little.

I had one of these for a short bit.. I sent mine in (Warranty) twice for feeding issues.. Still never was right. It's picky on ammo also. I found that high velocity ammo would shoot the best, although still not 100%. You get what you pay for, and the fit/finish is MEH in my opinion. I traded this on a Ruger Mark III for a fun plinker, and couldn't be happier.. Best of luck.

Glock27/ KaBar TDI/ MTAC Holster. I have more also, but this combination works well..
