Thank you for reaching out to our company with your comments. We understand your concerns and will begin removing signs from our stores this week.

I am very disappointed to see that Ruddick Corp. & Harris Teeter have decided to suppress my second amendment right by posting signs prohibiting the LEGAL carrying of weapons! Carrying a handgun openly holstered is completely legal in NC just as is carrying a concealed weapon with a permit. To obtain such a permit requires one to obtain weapons training and submit to extensive criminal & mental health background checks.
You have the right to carry a handgun for personal protection and the right to choose not to. However, when you decide that I cannot exercise my rights in your store, I will be glad to take my business elsewhere. My safety is worth much more! Those signs will do nothing to prevent criminals from carrying weapons; they'll carry regardless that is why they are criminals. I will miss your excellent deli and great customer service but I am a firm believer in the constitution.
I'm just one root in a grassroots organization. No one should assume that I speak for the VCDL.
I am neither an attorney-at-law nor I do play one on television or on the internet. No one should assumes my opinion is legal advice.

Yum - I miss Harris Teeter from when I used to live in Atlanta. I'd pick out a different gourmet dinner every night on the way home. Now it's Piggly-Wiggly and catfish on the way home.

It seems that within the past month or so, the signs went up, came down, and then went back up again... and I guess down again apparently.
You can see the two threads started there about H/T's carry policy on Open Carry.
One of the most dangerous political philosophies afflicting America today is the belief that we canít allow anyone to suffer the natural consequences of their own stupidity.

See? Wasn't easier than griping all over the forums and doing nothing about it?
Excellent job! Actions speak louder than (forum) words. Thanks from another CC'er.

Great job! The signs were obviously a knee jerk reaction to a complaint and reacted upon by someone who did not take the time or effort to check out the source. Your explanation was spot on. It's the only way to fight corporate stupidity.
