    Recommendation: 1911 Which one?

I'm looking for a 1911. I've always wanted a 1911, just something beautiful about the design that I've loved for a long time. This isn't something that I'm planning on rushing out to buy tomorrow or even next month. I'd like to save some $$ and get a good 1911, but it need not be a custom 1911 for four bills either. This pistol will in all reality become my everyday CC.

So, what do you folks recommend? Kimber? Springfield? Colt? Tarus?
Don't hold back, give it to me straight.

Oh, and forgive, I did a quick scan and didn't find a pre-existing thread.

My votes would be for a Dan Wesson, Springfield or Colt....in that order. My first was a Dan Wesson CBOB, and I can't say enough good about it. Fantastic for the price. The new Valor or VBOB would be on my DW wish list too. But Springfield and Colt make a fine 1911 as well.

Check out JD's 1911 guide here on the forum. Sorry, in a rush and did not have time to find that link for you. It was tremendously helpful when buying my first 1911. JD...any chance you can share the link to your thread(s)?

I own a Taurus 1911. It's not as pretty as some others, but I've got over 1000 flawless rounds through it.

I took it to a 4 day handgun course at Front Sight, fired 800 rounds in 4 days, without cleaning. I wanted to see how far it would go, if it would malfunction

I'm pleased with it. The most negatives that I've heard are magazines and safeties.

I use Chip McCormick and Wilson mags. They both work excellent, but the McCormicks are a little cheaper. I have one Kimber mag, it feeds well enough, but doesn't freely fall when I release it.

Mine is also the railed version. I wouldn't get that again, because of the lack of available holsters.

The beauty of the 1911 platform is; if something breaks you can, relatively, easily replace it with better parts. There is a sea of available parts out there.

    Happy hunting

I like my Taurus also, but if I was buying today, I'd get a RIA or a Springer. Both are excellent values. My son has both. His RIA is a compact and it has the best trigger of any 1911 I've ever shot.

What is your real no BS price range? Once we know exactly how much you want to spend we can tell you the best choices at that price point. 1911s go from $450 dollars up to $5000+. That's a big window. Where do you want to be in it.

Glad you like it, it can be viewed all in one shot HERE

Without knowing more about what you want it's hard to make suggestions. Saying "What 1911?" is almost as vague as "What car?"
Read the blog, think about the many options and let us know and we'll be able to help out more.

Personally, I'd have to go with a S&W, Springfield, Colt, Dan Wesson, or Les Baer. While the Baers are pricey, they are fabulous guns for the money and come in under Wilson, Brown, NHC etc. in cost.

I love my Kimber Pro CDP II. But you're going to do great if you stick to one of the big brands.

I have to say my S&W 1911SC is a great gun!

I have a Springfield LW Loaded and love it! Irecently shot the Loaded Operator 4" barrel and it shot great. I would highly recommend Springfield. You can go simple with the GI, but I would get a loaded! I carry a full size but a 4" would be nice. I really want a TRP but the weight and the cost may cause me to not want to carry it, well maybe not!
