    Nope, probably not happening.

That is unless you want jump through all the hoops your State Department requires to get export permits.

Then the Country you're trying to ship them to will probably require import permits too.

    Etc., etc., etc...........................

    You're a funny guy.

But then again, looks aren't everything!

BTW, in this "Foreign Country", you can't ship ammo through the mail. I'm assuming it's the same in your "Foreign Country".

The country is in Africa, and the ammo is shotgun shells. I know it's crazy of me to even think it, but I thought there might be a chance, especially since it could be considered hunting ammo.

My experience with ATF laws is that they are sometimes couterintuitive, so I thought I would ask. You never know.

It'll be a lot more trouble than it's worth to do it.

Surely there's no shotgun ammo shortage in Africa?

    Yes, probably.

In this country elections are approaching and so the government is stockpiling guns and ammo in anticipation of violence, so my buddy is having trouble finding what he needs. He's very resourceful, so I think he's prepared - still, too much is better than not enough. I just thought I would try.

Do you know anyone who goes on safari to Africa? They could probably help. Safari Club International might have some resources as well.

    "The country is in Africa"

Africa is not a country. Africa is a continent made up of different countries and territories.
Each country in Africa has their own individual laws - import/export & prohibited/restricted items list.

Right, but then I didn't claim that it was. If you look around at my recent posts, you should be able to connect the dots.

Look up the U. S. State Department website and do some searching.

You may ship ammunition out of the U. S., but you must have a State Department license to do so. Also, shotguns tend to fall into the 'not so bad' category, all things considered.

It will have to be shipped by a carrier, not the mail.

Please do not try to mail it or ship it without a DOS license. It's way too easy to find and some of them folks get real snippy about it.

without any kind of paperwork? no
here is the ITAR webpage that has a bunch of info. US State Department - Policy - Directorate of Defense Trade Controls
the short storry is if you just have some ammo you want to send overseas, dont. if you own an ammo manufactering company, then maybe, depending on the country, etc. you would certainly have to contact the ITAR ppl and do some paperwork first though.

You have two considerations. 1) What you must do here in the US; 2) what is allowed and what you must do on the other side.

It is conceivable that you might ship something from here and then get in trouble wherever it is you are sending the shells.

I'd check State Department, Commerce Department and DOT regs., as well as the shipper's regs.

I'd check with the consulate or embassy of the country you are shipping into for their authorization as well.

In line with this and probably the easiest, but I don't know about legal, way to ship ammunition is to have someone going hunting take a box or three and drop it off with your friend.
