G26 + 1911+ 870 Do I NEED anything else?
My current defensive setup is a Glock 26 for carry, a Colt series 80 1911 on the night stand and a Remington 870 close by. Recently I was thinking about what my next purchase as I have a "Extra Pay Check" coming up. The thing is this... When I buy a gun I don't really "Need" I always end up selling it a few months later as gun's I don't need tend to not get much of a work out at the range so I don't see the use so I sell them.
My current threesome seems to cover a lot of the bases that I need covered. I divide possible scenarios into 5 categories. A defensive shooting outside of the home (Covered by my EDC the Glock 26). A defensive shooting inside of the home (Covered by my nightstand the colt 1911 or Remington 870). Defending my home or self after a natural disaster (Covered by the 1911 and 870). Zombie Outbreak (Yes, this is a joke...Kind of... Covered by the 1911 and the 870) and last and most un-likely is a invasion of the United states by a foreign power.
The last is really the only thing I feel I'll equipped to handle because of my lack of a semi auto rifle. Luckily it is also the most un-likely to happen. I have been considering a kel tec sub 2000 in 9mm to fill the role of "Urban rifle" as I already carry a 9mm glock and if I decide to change out my night stand gun to a Glock 17 (which I have given some thought to) all my mags would be interchangeable from my CC to my nightstand gun to my pistol cal. carbine. I guess what I am trying to figure out is if a semi auto rifle in a true rifle cartridge (5.56) is really "needed". While it may be fun anything that sits in my safe without getting fired on a regular basis generally goes bye bye. I know that a Kel-Tec sub 2000 in 9mm if going to max out around 100 yards but I also know that even in a urban warfare scenario I doubt I would be engaging anything outside of that. In addition a Ar-15 doesn't have the benefit of sharing both mags AND ammo with my EDC and possible next night stand gun.
So long story short... What do ya think?

You need to get rid of that plastic gun.
OK just kidding. Yes a true rifle cartridge will make a big difference.
A 9mm might expand but a .45 will never shrink enough to fit 17 in the magazine.

I think you should buy the Kel-Tec...
then sell it to me in 6 months.
Seriously, having the interchangeable mags and ammo is a definite plus.

Based on your perceived needs, I think you are fine. The 870, properly set up and with the right ammo will do more than the sub 2000 at your max intended distance.

Another 1911 of course, this time a series 70 type.

How about a snubbie for a BUG?
Or, how about an AK? Gotta be prepared for those zombies

Everybody needs a wheel gun just because they're awesome... then for your collection you need a rifle of some sort, preferably 3. An AR or AK for fast shots, a 22 lr for plinking, and a bigger 30 caliber bolt action for hunting or long range zombie defense.
I don't think these fit exactly into your stated requirements... but a nice semi auto pistol that isn't a 1911, a 1911, a revolver, a 22 lr, an AK or AR, a long range 30 cal or greater, and a shotgun are all on my list of needs.
Just one more for me and my NEEDS list will be filled.

I think a logical case can be made for a 22lr and a combat rifle of some sorts.
A 22 is a staple of any survivalist, ammo is cheap and easy to stock in large quantity. A 22 in skilled hands can do just about anything you ask it to. They also get you more trigger time as they are a fraction of the cost to shoot.
The AK/AR or whatever kind speaks for itself.
