I'd love to have a lever gun in just about any caliber, but as noted, I'm too cheap.

If not for that it wouldn't take much persuasion to talk myself into a Henry or two.

Guys, he can't shoot the AR. So If you have some cash to burn, here is what to get...

    Glock 19 - Aprox $525.00

Polymer Mag Well - Approx $29.00
GlockStore.com - Glock Parts & Accessories, Glock Magazines & Apparel

    Laser Grips - Approx $180 - $220.00
    Laser Grips - GlockStore.com

Nice Versa Max IWB holster from Milt Sparks - Approx $120.00
    IWB holsters

Threaded barrel by Lone Wolf - Approx $140.00
    Lone Wolf - Threaded Barrels - GlockStore.com

Flash hider for the barrel - Approx $30.00
Flash Hider for Lone Wolf Threaded Barrels - GlockStore.com

You can add on from there. But that is my two cents on spending your money.

On a side note, you can get a lever gun in the calibers that you mentioned, in a BLR. The BLR utilizes a magazine, also. A plus for fast reloads, however I'm not aware of any high capacity mags. I believe that you're stuck with a 5 round, but I'm not positive.

Those brownings look like some fine rifles but if I'm paying 1000.00 for a rifle im buying a AR lol. On the flip side the 338MXLR is a SUPER sexy looking package. still a bit on the pricy side for a lever action but man... now ya got me thinking. Whats ammo availability like?

While Roadrunner71 brings up a great point, and probable wiser than my opinion...I still kinda lean toward the Glock. Can't hurt to have another carry peice!

I'll still lean towards the versatility of the AR in your situation Rollo. Like I said before, you can always swap out the upper for 9mm or .22lr (or just start out with a 9mm or .22lr AR.) I believe some indoor ranges will allow pistol caliber carbines, some won't though. You can always ask your local range if they're allowed before you buy.

Or, barring that, you can always send me the money and I'll put it to good use...

    Good luck man!

I have to admit. That 338 Marlin express round is EXTREMELY intriguing to me but I am having very little luck find ammo in quantity online. All I seem to be finding is Hornady lever action at 28.00 a box.

Go with the AR. Everybody needs a good battle rifle.

I highly recommend the Colt LE 6920.

AR is a good idea, but hard to get one for 1K and get all of the stuff you need for cool factor, and HD duty like a white light and an optic. YMMV, then a Glock 17, as a very close second.

    AR.

My psychic powers can also see a 38 revolver and a 22 pistol fun gun in your mix.

How about some new holsters while we are at it. I see many many holsters.

I disagree with most. I would get the Glock. 17's mags can be used in your other glock. You would have a good main / bug combo. As a night stand firearm, a light and / or laser combo would be nice.

If I were to go outside the two mentioned options,

    1) For the cost of te AR, you could get ther Glock + a .22 LR conversion upper. The conversion is easily the most fun I have shooting. It is not a perfect match in feel, but you learn a lot, and it translates into skill with the glock.

    2) A .22 LR plinker (say a 10/22) can offer hours and hours of fun with no real damage to the wallet.

In the field (for example hunting), you might change your mind how paper failed to account for performance. It is more effective than most handgun rounds. If it can take a deer, it will take things on two legs, and less than 100 yards (like in the woods with cover), it stands up to ARs, AKs, semi-auto /bolt action 30.06, etc.

That's kind of my issue with it. My Remington 870 will get out to 100 yards with slugs as well and I also have the ability to shoot buck shot out of that and it has the same capacity as a lever action in 30-30. For me if it's not getting out to 150-200 yards then I don't see the point as I can cover 0-100 with my shot gun. Don't get me wrong...I don't foresee having to make a shot at 200 yards in any normal situation however if I were to buy a AR it would basically be a "what if" type of weapon.

Your .338 ME is going to be expensive to feed, quite a bit more so than .223 or 5.56. You won't have any military surplus to buy from.

The .30-30 is as good, or better than the 7.62X39. It'll drop anything around 300lbs out to 200 yards. Throw in the new LeverEvolution ammo and you can go farther.

Another thing to consider: If, for some reason you wanted to sell it, because your needs or wants change, the AR will fetch the better return. I would imagine, anyway. Especially if the AWB is resurrected.

What about a Ruger Mini-14? It's a .223 like the AR, you can get high capacity magazines, you can put a scope on it, it's not quite as common as an AR (a plus for me), and it's cheaper than the AR.
