I just simply use the same number of mags that I have for home defense or concealed carry (2 mags for my handguns/11 mags for my AR-15 rifle) .

I take 5 mags per gun, all are loaded before I go.

With any of my pistols, I generally seem to take more than half my magazines. The next time to the range, the other half (or more). Works out well for cycling all the magazines into the mix, while not abusing just a couple of the most-used magazines.

3 for PT 1911, 2 for Taurus PT 709, 3 for Glock 19 and 2 for Ruger Standard. Can waist a hundred bucks in ammo pretty quick.

    All of 'em.

Well, if I'm taking my two XD pistols, anyhow. I've got an XD40SC (Sub-Compact) and XD40 Service (4" barrel) and have a combined 14 magazines (five 9rnd and nine 12rnd), three loaded w/SD rounds. The other 11 mag's are loaded w/FMJ, tho only the XD40SC can use all 14 mag's. I'm kind of lazy and if I'm going to the indoor range, I don't have to reload all the mag's if I'm only shooting what's in the 11 mag's of "plinkin' ammo".

If I'm only shooting the SC that day, then I only take nine magazines and leave the rest at home w/the Service.

At least a dozen for my 1911's. I take two 15-round mags and three 20-round mags for the 226's, 10 for the AR and SCAR along with a Beta-mag. All the other guns have three or four.

Proven combat techniques may not be flashy and may require a bit more physical effort on the part of the shooter. Further, they may not win competition matches, but they will help ensure your survival in a shooting or gunfight on the street. ~Paul Howe
