    Found a 'new' Sig p228

I've been looking for Sig p228 for a while. After bidding on 3 different guns on Gunbroker...and losing them all, I tried calling gun shops on Sig's list of dealers (here in Jersey, and 'nearby' dealers in NY, CT and PA.) I was hoping to find a CPO model.
I didn't, but did find this pristine 1992 West German p228. The PA dealer said he thought it was new. A guy was trying to sell it on consignment, and got desperate. It certainly appears to be new. Looks like the only rounds through it were the 4 shot by manufacturer. Original box, mags, target, and instruction manual. (All the serial numbers match too.)
The price seemed reasonable...550$ plus shipping.
I haven't shot it yet. My wife thinks I shouldn't. Keep it as is, as an investment. Any thoughts? Thanks.

    It's 9mm. The p228s are all 9mm.
    P229s come in 9, 40 and 357 I believe.

Looks way too nice to just sit in the back of the safe. I would have a hard time not shooting it.

I'm with you Diablo. I wouldn't be able to just let it sit there, looking that good, and not shoot it. I guess I'm just weak?

I am not a collector and money doesn't grow on trees, but if you have the capacity to hold on to it as is, I might consider it. Double check your serial numbers with the company and see what you actually have first. Then you can start shopping for another p228 to actually shoot.

    Or....

Just shoot the dickens out of that one and enjoy!

    Good luck!

That is a mighty fine looking Sig, but I'd be using it...that firearm sure looks new to me.
    Nice find!

The date code on the frame below the muzzle is KC...which is 1992. It has all the German proof marks too.
But I'm just not sure whether it is in 'new' condition. There's no 'tape seal' around the grip or attached to the trigger/trigger guard...like today.
Did they have something like that back in the 90's?

I have a P228 that was old stock, though not as old as yours. I couldnt resist shooting. Once you shoot it, you will never want to get rid of it. It is easily the best Sig all around I have handled and shot, with the 220 a close second.

As good a shooter as that pistol is bound to be, it seems almost sacreligious not to put it to its intended use. That said, it's a fairly rare find - I'm sure SIXTO will be able to chime in on whether or not it's rare enough to justify abstaining from the joys of shooting it.

And Broken - see? They (P228s) do exist for reasonable prices!
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

Well, I took the p228 to the range tonight. What a joy to shoot!!
Points naturally, accurate, little noticable recoil, beautifully balanced...and not a single FTF, FTE...100%.
The DA was a bit on the stout side... but what a nice SA release.
Still felt a wee bit queasy for breaking in such a pristine gun. Oh well.

Thats nice and all, but we are talking 228's here.

Anyway, I just saw this thread. That is a really nice deal you got on the 228. I would have snatched that up in a heart beat. As far as not shooting it... its not really a collectors piece. Shoot it. It will be well beyond our lifetimes to see any significant value gain if kept pristine.

I'm glad you finally found one, enjoy it. (and PM me if you want to sell. )
