    Evaluation Conclusions

Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence (Brady Center) does not meet the following 6 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Standard 1: Oversight of Operations and Staff - Organizations shall have a board of directors that provides adequate oversight of the charity's operations and its staff. Indication of adequate oversight includes, but is not limited to, regularly scheduled appraisals of the CEO's performance, evidence of disbursement controls such as board approval of the budget, fund raising practices, establishment of a conflict of interest policy, and establishment of accounting procedures sufficient to safeguard charity finances.

Brady Center does not meet this Standard because its board of directors does not:

    * Have a voting member of the board who is assigned the responsibility of serving as the treasurer. In general, the boardís treasurer helps provide independent oversight of the organizationís finances.

Standard 4: Compensated Board Members - Not more than one or 10% (whichever is greater) directly or indirectly compensated person(s) serving as voting member(s) of the board. Compensated members shall not serve as the board's chair or treasurer.

Brady Center does not meet this Standard because:

    * 2 members out of the 19 member board of directors (11%) are compensated directly.

Standard 6: Board Policy on Effectiveness - Have a board policy of assessing, no less than every two years, the organization's performance and effectiveness and of determining future actions required to achieve its mission.

Brady Center does not meet this Standard because:

    * Its effectiveness assessment policy does not specify that this assessment will take place at least once every two years.

Standard 7: Board Approval of Written Report on Effectiveness - Submit to the organization's governing body, for its approval, a written report that outlines the results of the aforementioned performance and effectiveness assessment and recommendations for future actions.

Brady Center does not meet this Standard because:

    * It did not produce a written report outlining the results of its most recent effectiveness assessment.

Standard 17: Web Site Disclosures - Include on any charity websites that solicit contributions, the same information that is recommended for annual reports, as well as the mailing address of the charity and electronic access to its most recent IRS Form 990.

Brady Center does not meet this Standard because the organization's website, Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, does not include all of the recommended information for those charity websites that solicit for donations. Specifically, it does not include:

    * Electronic access to the organizationís most recent IRS Form 990.

Standard 18: Privacy for Written Appeals & Internet Privacy - Address privacy concerns of donors by (a) providing in written appeals, at least annually, a means (e.g., such as a check off box) for both new and continuing donors to inform the charity if they do not want their name and address shared outside the organization, (b) providing a clear, prominent and easily accessible privacy policy on any of its websites that tells visitors (i) what information, if any, is being collected about them by the charity and how this information will be used, (ii) how to contact the charity to review personal information collected and request corrections, (iii) how to inform the charity (e.g., a check off box) that the visitor does not wish his/her personal information to be shared outside the organization, and (iv) what security measures the charity has in place to protect personal information.

Brady Center does not meet this Standard because the privacy policy on this website, Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence does not indicate:

    * What security measures are in place to protect personal information that is collected.

Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence (Brady Center) meets the remaining 14 Standards for Charity Accountability.

    Programs

The Brady Center operates a public interest law program called the Legal Action Project (LAP) through which it strives to fight harmful policies, represent victims, defend gun laws, and educate the public and decision makers. The Brady Center provides research on gun policy issues and educates the public about legal and constitutional support for gun laws, including countering gun lobby representation of the Second Amendment. The Brady Center develops public education programs to help train community activists through its Hechinger Speaker's Bureau and developed a new strategy to build working relationships with gun violence victims called "Linking with Victims for Change." The Brady Center has forged relationships with the nation's law enforcement personnel to work towards passing gun laws and promoting gun safety, including support from law enforcement leadership for re-authorization of the federal Assault Weapons Ban and opposition to the gun industry immunity bill. Some ($74,599 or 4%) of the Brady Center's public education expenses are carried out in conjunction with fund raising appeals.

    Not surprised.
If you asked the brady bunch why they failed they would say, "well the thing is we need background checks at gun shows, we have to close the loophole."

They should not be tax-exempt, nor should any other organization whose expressed goal is to gut constitutional freedoms.

Great OP...gives us some good insight into the Brady Bunch...

But I have to disagree with the desire to take away their tax exempt status...

The Framers of the Constitution wrote into that great document a method to change it...any group that seeks to change the Constitution via that method, and follows all tax laws, deserve tax-exempt status...

It is out job, as supporters of the 2nd Amendment, to operate tax-exempt organizations that will fight to keep the Constitution as it is...

Liberals... You can't communicate with them and you can't shoot 'em!

I am not even surprised in the least with this post. It's typical of that far left group.
