First purchased handgun: Makarov, Fall 2005

First purchased long gun: Mosin Nagant 91/30, Summer 2007

The Makarov purchase was interesting. I had just moved back to Virginia after going to college in Canada. I walked into a shop that specialized in surplus weapons and ammo. I liked the small size, slim profile, and storied reliability of the Makarov, so when I saw one for $150, I couldn't pass it up. I asked to see it, I inspected it for any apparent signs of abuse or damage and found none, so I purchased it. Two forms, and a ten-minute call to the State Police later, and that was it. The woman behind the counter simply placed it and the spare mag on the counter and said, "Thank you! Have a nice day!"

Having just left the anti-gun, socialist paradise of Canada, it was a bit of a shock to me. I honestly didn't know what to do. Of course, I knew Virginia was an open carry state, so I just tucked it in my pants and walked out the door.

My first was a Smith & Wesson M&P .40c. It's my carry piece. I bought it last year on my 21st birthday. I had already shot it more than once, so on my birthday I left work, went to the gun store and said "I want that one."

    Second best birthday ever.

My first handgun was a Hi-Point .40 and I bought it the day after I turned 21. I ended up selling it after the first and last range trip. I didn't have much money and really wanted to buy my first handgun LOL!

I bought a Springfield XD Sub-Compact .40 in OD green when I was 21 (almost 3 years ago), the sights were badly off from the factory so I shipped the slide off to get some TFO's put in.

I could never get that pistol to function perfectly. I cringe at buying anything Springfield again.

    First Handgun

I bought my first handgun at a Gun & Knife show in Pensacola FL in 1984 while stationed at Corry Field. It was a Colt Trooper MK III blued in .357 Mag.

I carried that gun around the world until I traded it in on a Baby Eagle in 1998 (bad mistake)! Went back the very next day to buy it back and it was already sold.

Found another one (stainless) in 2003 and bought it. This one is staying with me...
