Roommate gun decision

Okay, A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, I sold my roommate a Taurus pt940, he eventual sold it to a mutual friend, after my friends t85 KB'ed, this guys 940 KB'ed too, the barrel split apart in the chamber block and the end of the barrel like a hot dog in a microwave, the owner sent it to Taurus, Taurus replaced the guide rod spring and the barrel, sent it back. Now, my roommate has the opportunity to buy it and was super pysched about it tonight but, i kinda told him to go with somthing better. New/Used, what is in the 300-400 price range for a .40 S&W?

Im posting pics of the gun he is wanting to buy as of now and please post pics of guns that would be better suited to him.
he was there when my buddies T85 KB'ed, his pants and boxer shorts even got sliced up but he managed to come out without blood loss. HOW could he WANT this PT940?!

Yeah.....I would run FAR from Taurus....especially if it's the same gun that KB'd

Yeah, I'd tell him that when two guns of the same manufacture KB right before your very eyes, well, that is a warning to stay away.

Run far away from Taurus. I would suggest the Kahr CW40. The MSRP for the CW series are listed as $549 but I bought a CW9 for around $425.

Look at a SIGMA's or some of the Rugers. Also a used Glock or XD might be just the thing.

If he wants it, he wants it. You've obviously expressed your advice to him. If he still wants it, then there is nothing you can do about it. Let him make his own mistake.

I'll second the XD40, either the Service (4") or the SC (Sub Compact). I own each of these. Friend of mine just got one used for under USD$400 at a gunshop. It was only the pistol and one mag, tho - no extra's or box, she said.

I'm happy with my Taurus but I'd be wary of buying back the same gun even though its been repaired. It could also be that your friends were using the wrong ammo or bad reloads and in that case, I'd be more than happy to get it back for a good price and be sure to put the right ammo through it.

Yes everyone is reading that right.. Bought it, sold it, KB'ed, it got fixed, now its in his room and he wants it again.
Who could turn a Taurus down for $200. .... GUYS??

All you can do is educate him, if he decides once educated to make a bad purchase, thats his fault. I would advise YOU not to going shooting with him if he does buy it. A good deal for a peice of crap,...means,...you still own a peice of crap!

im sorry but i dont want to sound ignorant here, but what does KB'ed mean? i gather that the barrel exploded....how idk....never heard of nothing like that happening...im just interested in learning all the "firearm lingo"....lol
