    1911 .22 conversion kits

I need some help with a 1911 .22 conversion kit. I'm in the market for a 1911 as I have never owned one and they look really cool. I've got my eye on the SA light weight champ operator. As I shop around at ammo prices and such .45 is quite expensive and that I can burn through ammo really quick it is going to get quite expensive. I saw on Kimbers website that they offer a conversion kit for their 1911s, and I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas if there is one out there that would fit a Springfield.

I have one of these and absolutely love it. Mine will shoot ten shot groups into 3/4 inch @ 50 yards all day from a solid rest and its been as reliable as a brick. Mine is on a Kimber frame, but they should work on any standard 1911.

I have 2 and love them both. I have a Kimber Ultra 3" with Ciener conversion and it shoots great with .45 or 22. It just takes 2 minutes to swap out. The one I shoot most is a RIA GI that I bought with .22 Ciener slide and barrel installed--no .45 at all. It is fun and is balanced and weighs the same as my other 5" 45acp's. Both are cheap practice with a carry gun or just fun range guns. My grand kids love to shoot both and can kill 500 .22 lr bulk pack in a hurry. I see some good buys on used ones every once in a while.

I'm thinking of snagging a Ciener because it's only $199 compared to the Kimber at $329 and the Marvel Precision at $429. Anybody want to provide comparisons on these? They all fit the standard mil-spec type frame from what I understand.

I just bought a complete 22 dedicated 1911,for about $365.00,gun was 329.00.The GSG 1911 is imported I've put at least 500 rounds thru this gun and it was flawless. All the functions work grip safety,ambi-safety,nice trigger(smoother than my Colt).I believe parts are 80% interchangeable with other 1911's

I don't have any actual experience with any but the Marvel. From what I've read and seen the others would be fine for plinking and practice. If I was looking at one for competition, I would spend the money and go with the Marvel. If I was looking for a cheaper way to practice, I wouldn't spend the extra money.

I'd only suggest you research "Ciener" conversions first. Nuff said.

I use an Advantage Arms conversion on my Glock and enjoy the heck out of it. I like using the same frame, but, in reality, you can pick up .22 pistols for the cost of conversions.
