    Opinions Please

I had my 2nd wedding anniversary on wednesday and for my present the misses is letting me buy a new .22 . I don't know anything about .22s but I am just getting it for a plinking gun. About $200 is my max, but I don't really care if its new or used. I know there are a million and one threads on .22s here and I will dig through some of them tonight but I wanted to get some opinions.
Also I have an AR-15 so I could just get a conversion kit; I am still weighing the pros and cons of that vs having another rifle.
    So let's hear it..............

If your not opposed to used I would say pick up a used 10/22. They are pretty accurate, and they have a huge aftermarket for from tacticool to bullseye shooting. I have a couple, but I should warn you they can be money pits with all the toys you can pick up for them.

Go to WM and buy a ruger 10/22 and take wife shooting.

My wife had to have in for herself and really enjoys shooting it.

Wal-Mart sells real guns! Well they do 50 miles west of the store in my hometown anyway. Shotguns and rifles, none black.

I gotta concur with a 10/22 or another real fun option is a lever action rifle, don't know what they run though.

+1 on the 10/22. I've had mine for years and pushed 1000's of rounds through it! It has taught ALL of my kids how to shoot rifle, and now is waiting on thier little ones(I am not quite ready for that though!).

A 10/22 or maybe a Henry .22 lever action. The blued version. Stay away from the golden boy, its probably more money than you want to spend new or used.

Dick's Sporting Goods sells the 10/22 w/ wooden stock NIB for about $180.00 here in Texas. They do have a TON of cool toys. Personally I like the Archangel kit you can get for it.

    AFTER

And there are a lot more cool stuff you can add too.

In fact wait till you learn about the BMF Activator for the 10/22. Inexpensive add on that you will love.

Most people will first recommend the Ruger 10/22. I've never had one, but then I've never really wanted one.

You might consider a Henry lever action .22. You can get one for $250 plus or minus. Then you can shoot shorts and subsonics as well. They are fun to shoot.

Yeah, the 10/22 is very good.

I have and like a Marlin .22 semi auto and a .22 Mag bolt action - both do a good job - reasonably priced.

Had them for years with no malfunctions from either.

    I own a Ruger 10/22. Paid $180 or so.

I recommend it to anyone for plinking. No complaints except the reliability of 3rd party aftermarket mags.

Sounds like the 10/22 is the way to go. That's what everyone at the shops I went to today was saying too, but none of them had a used one; they said when they do get used ones they don't have them for more than a day or two before they are sold. I couldn't find any for under about 230 though so I guess I will be waiting for a sale, I'm also going to check out some auction sites and see what I can find that way.
    Thanks for the advice everyone!

My first gun purchase! Savage Mark II .22LR - costs about $100 at WalMart, though I got mine elsewhere for about $120. Has shot a lot of chicken-killin varmits for me, besides beer cans and bottle caps and all the normal plinkin stuff. Hangs on my bedroom wall loaded and ready when somethin bothers my birds - hasn't failed me yet.

I still want a lever action Henry some day though.

+1 on the Ruger 10/22. My dad taught me how to shoot with his 10/22 starting when I was about 6. Many good memories and its a very fun gun to plink with - and also great for gophers, squirrels etc. There are endless options with this gun also. You might want to checkout RimfireCentral.com - Rimfire Community! also! You'll find out just about anything on any brand .22 rifle or pistol and see what people are up to with anything .22
