recently got my C&R license. no problems here. how difficult (or impossible) is it to get a 01 FFL if i want to start buying and selling out of my house? the C&R does not permit you to engage in any kind of business.
PS i live in NC if it makes any difference.

I would avoid having your home as your business. You give the ATF the ability to do inspect your home without permission or court order and the lines between your personal and business firearms may become blurred.
Besides you don't want druggies coming round your house looking to steal a firearm. That is not good for anyone.

Your home will also have to be in an area that is locally legal for business, and you will need to obtain all the pertinent local permits that any business would need to have. In a sales tax state, you will need to be set up to collect sales tax. (BATFE will verify these things.) Kitchen table dealers are largely a thing of the past; one has to be really serious about it.
