I sooo want to get involved, however, I don't feel that I have a good gun for competition, The Ruger is great for EDC and PDW, but not a competition shooter.

Would like to get something in a 1911 style 9mm and join the local club.

Congrats on your first outing, maybe our paths will cross at an event in the future!

IDPA isn't for race guns....it's for those who carry...using (relatively) realistic scenarios. I say, go give is shot (no pun intended)....see how you do. Practice more, and see how you do again. If you carry it, it's good enough for IDPA...

I used a Sig P226 in .40 s&w and it ran just fine, no problems at all.

I'd like to try it, but my worn-out, wobbly knees would drop me in a heap, and I'd probably shoot my foot off. Sounds like a lot of fun though. I get too much anxiety built up competing.

No I didn't, I just joined IDPA, so I shoot unclassified.

I just shot in my first IDPA match last weekend and I agree, it is a blast. I had a great time and met some very nice folks, I'll be shooting with them as often as I can.
I shot my S&W 1911 9mm Pro Series in ESP and my Springfield Loaded .45 in CDP, I won ESP and overall so it was a great day for me!!

    I haven't shot a qualifier yet, either.

    What Ruger do you have?

    An 85/89/95.
    These would work fine.

I shot a couple of matches with my SR9c and I did fine. I will shoot a classifier in the fall when the local org holds one, and I'm pretty confident I will classify sharpshooter based on my first 2 match results.

Shoot what you carry, that's the whole point.

Yep. The S&W is my duty gun, I used my duty holster and gear.
