Eh, mine's boring and pretty common : 7.62x39mm in a rifle, .45 ACP in a handgun.

I think anything that has the capacity to fairly reliably drop violent attackers with a few shots is a "heavy" hitter. Though, of course there are examples of "failures" of all different calibers to stop a given attacker. In my view, .357mag is not quite up to "heavy" status any longer. It's merely twice as "heavy" as a weak 9mm. I'd go twice as "heavy" again (as compared to a weak .357), and say that a .44mag is a decent "heavy hitter" today.

My heavy hitters are 41 mag in revolver, and the ultimate in defensive concealed carry pistol, the g29 10mm. For real big game, think Africa, the 416 Rigsby that I hardley ever shoot.

I guess I will go with my 44 mag Super Redhawk and my 300 Weatherby. They both put a pretty serious thumping on something.

    In handheld, my 10mm.
In shotgun, my 12ga with 3 1/2 mag turkey loads. Those are pretty "heavy".

In handguns it would be whatever I have in my holster. In something "bigger", it would be a nice 12 gauge. I heard that it have one hell of a bite.
