Heavy hitter handguns are my 1911's in .45acp, my .357 mag revolvers, my Colt Delta Elite 10mm and in rifles my M1A and FAL.

I never could understand why more poeple don't own the Colt Delta Elite 10mm. It will carry 10 rounds of Double Tap 125gr rounds at 1650 fps from a 5" barrel or 200gr lead flat nose for large game at 750 ft/lbs.

I feel if I am going to carry, then CARRY, so I carry my "heavy-hitter" everyday.....Para double-stack 1911...17 rounds of 45 ACP. (Yes 17 rounds.....extended magazine easily hold 16 plus 1 in the pipe.)

Well, I only own two guns, a Mossberg 500 and a Mosin Nagant 91/30, and even though I would consider them both "heavy hitters," I would most likely go for the Mossberg first.

I live in CA, so AR's and AK's are out of the picture, but for a civilian, a shotgun is jsut fine imo. Even if SHTF, I would probably stay holed up in the house until things blow over, so a shotgun is just fine. Plus, if for whatever reason the world was in chaos and I had to venture outside, I'd still take the shotty with me. It's much easier to hide, and the only people who would most likely mess with me would be bandits, foreign troops, or zombies, and I just can't see any of them bothering me from further then 30m if I do my part to stay out of plain sight.

The only reason I would ever carry the Mosin would be if I ran out of ammo for the shotty (I typically only have 50 rounds of 00buck for "emergencies", and lets face it, if I need more then 50 rounds of 00buck, then I'm in deep doodoo) or I managed to escape into the open feilds and hills near my home.

Because the FBI determined long ago that the 10mm was not effective in real world combat shooting scenarios due to the heavy recoil caused by such powerful loads.

One can get high performance .40 S&W, .357 Sig, and .45 Auto ammo that will easily exceed 500 ft/lbs of energy. Some will even go past 550 ft/lbs

That is plenty of power with which to win a gunfight. In fact, .40 S&W law enforcement ammunition is generally loaded to produce between 420 to 475 ft/lbs of energy. That is what actual law enforcement professionals use. Even they don't use the .40 S&W loaded to its max performance.

And civilians certainly don't need anything more powerful than what they require. It is better for us to stick to using law enforcement ammo, or ammo loaded to identical performance levels.

A .45 loaded with some good +P ammo is all one needs to have. Anything beyond that is superfluous.

My 8MM Mauser probably would do the most damage, seconded by my Mossberg 12 gauge with 00 Buck and then my 1911.

If dinosaurs ever make a comeback I'm ready for 'em. Otherwise I keep a Winchester Model 70 .375 H&H Magnum and a Winchester Model 1895 .405 WCF for fun. They are the heaviest rifles on hand. I also have a 10 gauge Magnum shotgun.

OH SWEET! What year is your 70? Is the 95 an original or one of the newer Mirokus? (not that it matters, I have a Brownchester/Miroku '86 )
