One of the better S&W semis.
The one I shot was accurate and good to shoot. I'm a fan of the 10MM anyway.
Trigger was about on par with the rest of them, its a long double action pull, not so bad with the single action.

    THe 1006 that I shot was a SA/DA. Isn't this one?

The 1046 is a DAO. Not many of them made.

I'm not sure, but I beleive it is possible. You just have to swap out the parts. Best done by a gunsmith if you arent sure of what you are doing. It would be at least the hammer, trigger and probably the sear.

Here is a link on the 10's.

Unless you are thinking of the single action like a Colt government model, then probably not.

It could be "cleaned up" and improved considerably...by someone that knows how to do it. I wouldnt attempt it myself. Take off or polish too much and it becomes a dangerous gun.

I have a 1006 and love it. It is just the right size and weight for that caliber. The only modification I performed on mine was recontouring the trigger. This definitely made for more comfort and the pull felt lighter.

I had a 1006 as my first 10mm...and I really didn't care for it. I didn't like the trigger at all...the loooooong DA pull (but smooth--very, very smooth, I'll give it that), and then the looong take up for the single action trigger.

    I don't miss it.

I have a friend who has two of them. I think the triggers are terrible. He shot a chronograph with one of them. Kind of a long heavy pull. The SA pull has a lot of play in it. I don't like it, but it is a solid well made gun.

I think so. I am a 1911 guy, and I would MUCH rather shoot a Glock. If it is a 10mm you want I would go with a G20 unless you are getting the Smith for very cheap.

The 1006 has what S&W calls TDA (Traditional Double Action). The first shot is double action the rest are single.

Yeah, I thought the trigger rather blew.

I would concur about preferring a Glock trigger to it, and would recommend a G20...or, I would recommend taking a look at a 10mm EAA Witness. I replaced my 1006 with a standard Witness--which I liked quite a bit, but then replaced it with an Elite Match, and I doubt that will go anywehere anytime soon.

    I also have a G20.
