I was looking for some information about Colt revolvers for concealed carry. I was looking for like the Detective Special, I went up to Colt's website and to my surprise I find nothing!
Does Colt not make small frame revolvers any longer? I need to climb out from under my rock:)

There are a couple New in Box ones on GB for sale right now, bring piles of money though if you wanna win the auction.
I won't say S&W revolvers are "the same" because they are not, but for the price difference, they are a fine, fine substitute.
Colt detectives that have been carried some, routinely bring about $425-$550 on GB, so that's not too bad, but expect some cosmetic flaws.
Thanks for the info. I felt fortunate a while back when I purchased a Colt Commando SPEC .38 (production 1984-1985'ish) for like $300. The wife really likes the feel of it so I figured I buy her a new Colt for Christmas. Well now I know Colt doesn't make them anymore.
So maybe I'll spiffy this one up and let her have it.

Colt is practically defunct. However, they also made the Python with a 2.5" barrel if money is no object.
There are still some out there used. You can try gunbroker.com or local gun shows. They are somewhat expencive now a day's, but if you can find a good one they are in my opinion
a great handgun, I have two Colt's I trust my life to every day. I believe they made the best firearms ever. Just my opinion tho..........
There is a good supply of Dick Specials out there on the used market, and if you keep your eyes peeled on GunBroker you'll even find NIB models (just bring money). I think if you're patient you could find a good third edition (shrouded ejector rod and with grips filling the space behind the trigger guard) for around $400 + or -. That's just a little more than you'd pay for a new Taurus snubbie, a little less than a new S+W, and you'd have not only a 6th shot but a classic worthy of handing down to the kids someday.
I scored a gently-used third edition DS a couple of years ago for a very reasonable $350. There was a little bit of 'freckling' from surface rust, but the action is smooth (albeit with the classic Colt "stacking") and the lockup is very tight. This is in the safe awaiting a Grant Cunningham makeover (convert to DA-only, chamfer the cylinder bores, tune the action, and refinish).
Current pricing has not gone up much since I got mine; you just have to keep your eyes peeled. Yesterday I was just poking around and saw a clean DS in almost-pristine nickel finish still in the $300s with just a day or two left in the auction. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=190915529

The Colt Detective Special. One of the slickest self-defensive wheel guns ever built.
If you can somehow manage to scoop a "minty" one up at anywhere close to a reasonable price...buy it.
A nice vintage one will never decrease in value even if Colt starts making them again - and that's highly unlikely.

I don't remember when I bought mine but shortly after I guess Colt stopped a lot of production.
I have the Detective Special SF-VI. It's a 6 round .38SPL with a 2 inch barrel. It is touted as having the smoothest trigger pull of anything in its class, right out of the box.
An absolutely beautiful piece. On single action it has a hair trigger. It is accurate.
