I have an opportunity to buy a Ruger sp101 in 357 magnum for 325.00. It has about 50 rounds through it. It comes with the whole wolf trigger spring pack and an iwb holster. Is that good?

You didn't give us any detail on barrel length, etc., but I'd say it is a deal. They're $450 new, at Buds online. You'll find them for that around here too. I'd go for it if you're comfortable with the person playing with the trigger, or did they have the parts pack but not installed? I get a little leary when they've done their own gunsmithing...don't get me wrong as I'll do simple stuff on my guns, but some people are idoits and I'd be careful if I don't know them and I know that they've tinkered with it. I'd love an SP101 3"...

I agree with Rollo, if it's a viable source, then I would jump on it. They are great guns.

Yep! I'd take that deal.
I bought my Ruger SP101 about 7 years ago and paid more than $325.

Jump on that with both feet, around here they go for $425-$445.

One more vote for "just do it"! That's an excellent price for a gun that you will probably outlast you.

Roger on the responses guys. I made the deal. It's a Ruger Sp101 with 3 inch barrel in I guess it's a nickel finish? Now I gots me a woods gun. Now for the 357 part, what grain ammo is the best? I will use the 38 special rounds for target. I also have +p 38 special ammo but want the harder hitting ammo for the woods in case a large cat or bear gets froggy.

180 grain .357 magnum if woods duty is what you want it for. Remington makes them in 50 packs that I've seen at Bass Pro, but I've never tried them before. I know Buffalo Bore makes them too, and they're probably about as hot as you'll find. If you want it for SD (two-legged critters) then 125 gr JHP is the ticket.
