I was not allowed to rent a gun?
I took a 40 minute trip from Columbus up to Black Wing, to rent a P30, maybe a G20 if i had time. I was turned away because I didn't bring a friend or bring my own gun. I had never heard of this policy, nor can i find it on their website. anyone else ever experience this? I was am not mad that they have the policy more that I been there once before, looked over the website, wasted 80 minutes, gas and didn't know i would not be able to rent.

You fit the profile of someone about to commit suicide.

Come to Miami, there are plenty of places that will rent to pretty much anybody as long as you look reasonably sober and have $.

I guess since I don't use indoor ranges, I am out of touch with these types of policies. Is it really because he fits a suicide profile? Someone enlighten me here please. Is this a real issue?

Its happened person does not have access to gun or money to get one so he goes to the gun range to "rent" one and uses it to kill him/her self they firgure if you have a friend with you less likely also if you already have a gun its kinda null since you could have already done it

Seems strange, I agree. The whole point of a rental range is to make rentals to people at the range.
While I suppose being disallowed helps make the range staff feel better, the people they sidestep for potential suicide is likely to be only the documented "crazies" who have previously attempted suicide and/or have a mental health record that precludes them from acquiring a pistol through normal channels. Beyond that relatively small group, there have got to be tens of thousands who are contemplating or actively pursuing it in a given year. No steps taken by a gun range is going to stop those folks from acquiring a firearm from another source.

I guess it is because of the recent rash of range suicides. It should have been exsplained though if they are gonna inforce the rule. Never been more glad that I just step outside if I wanna shoot.

Exactly what I was going to say. I doubt the range does it because they have a soft spot in their heart for people wanting to commit suicide. The range simply doesn't want them doing it THERE. if they acquire a gun and do it some place else that's none of the range's concern.

They are just trying to keep whats happened at other nearby ranges from happening there. Awhile back someone shot theirself at the Powder Room in Powell. It has also happened at New Albany shooting range also. NASR also had a woman buy a gun and shoot herself in the parking lot
If you want to rent something go to Ohio Valley in Lancaster.Their range fee is only 10.00 if you buy a box of their ammo. 13.00 if usung your own ammo.(you have to buy their ammo if rent a gun) Blackwing charges 20.00
If you buy ck Vance's/Buckeye first
