My son in law has one and has asked for me to teach him to shoot it. I know nothing about this firearm. Looking at the instructions, they state to avoid military, reload, or hot ammo. Is hot ammo defined as +P in this case?
He does not know the history on it and it appears to have been taken care of. I am in the process of field stripping it, cleaning it, and general inspection. Any areas of concern that I need to take a close look at?

Just get some 115 or 124 grain 9mm FMJ ammo, the type sold at Wal-Mart, and "learn" the gun with that stuff. EAA's ammo recommendations are conservative to keep their lawyers happy - that's normal. I'm pretty sure that's an all-steel gun, so I wouldn't worry about good-quality reloads or the occasional mag or two of +P to check out a carry load.
Avoid doesn't mean the same as "Do not use." I wouldn't recommend a steady diet of +P or Mil ammo if they say "avoid." Run standard range ammo for practice, fire enough high-power ammo to verify reliability for SD use (if you choose to use +P, etc. at all). A lot of the hotter ammo would likely increase wear and damage. A few rounds now and then would probably be fine.
