A couple weeks ago when I bought my Mosin Nagant 91/30 I saw the gun store also had the GSG 1911-22 available. I asked to see it and it felt like I was holding a 1911 .45 and not a .22 pistol. I was pretty impressed with the overall build quality and I was hoping it would still be there when I had the money to purchase it.
A few days ago I went back to the same store and to my complete amazement they still had the same GSG 1911-22 that I fondled a couple weeks ago. I ended up following me home on 1/19/2011 at the cost of $355.00 and I took it to the range yesterday to test it out.
I am overall pretty impressed with this particular .22 though I did experience a few stovepipes and failures to fire. Out of the 150 or so rounds I put through it I think it had maybe seven or eight malfunctions so I would give it a 8 out of 10 in reliability. Accuracy was alright at 20 yards but it shot high for me. I did notice the gun came with two additional front sights and they were of different sizes. I switched to the smallest one so hopefully next time I go to the range I'll get better groups.
This .22 goes nicely with my M&P15-22. In summary I would recommend this dedicated .22LR 1911 style pistol to anyone looking for a training tool, especially if you carry a 1911 as your EDC gun. Another great thing is that it field strips almost like a regular 1911 but with two additional pins that have to be removed. Mine works well with Federal bulk and CCI Mini Mag ammo.
