Yeah, they are a pain in the posterior the first time or two. They get easier. Luckily you almost never have to take them off.

Your supposed to use a glock take down tool to remove the plate. You don't HAVE to have it to do it but it makes it a heck of a lot easier.

It can be but practice makes it easier.

I find it's the pinching in the sides of the mag to release the tabs that makes it difficult.

I am not any kind of expert on Mags at all, in fact the only double stack I own is my Glock 22 (it is kind of new) but over all I find that any time I have altered or used any after market Mag that is when I have trouble FTF or FTE, does anyone else find this to be true??? If I stay facotry I find I have fewer issues, and the Glock I have never had an issue to date; however I hove only ever used the facotry mags 15 + 1 double stack mags with it...

I use the GTUL, check them out, they're better than getting mad:

The best part of the kit is the hand-held clip which squeezes the mags just enough to clear the indents.

I've used the GTUL to add Pearce +0 pinky extensions to 2 GLOCK 26 magazines. The first one was difficult but once I got it the other was easy. I don't plan on disassembling any more magazines unless I have to.

If you have a Glock armorer's tool, insert it ALL the way down and then pry. It's the only way to get enough leverage so that it feels easy.

It's actually really simple once you get the hang of it. ...and don't worry, you won't break the mags, so using force is OK.

This is what I bought...it made opening/changing base plates very easy.

The first time I tried to replace a base plate with a grip extender it took me about 20 minutes to figure it out. I use a drift punch to move the inner plate up into the magazine. You have to move it about an inch and a half or more to get adequate room to depress the sides of the magazine tube. The second one was much easier.
