    New to me 1911.

Since 2011 is the centennial of the Colt 1911 I decided it was time to buy a Colt 1911. And as I already have a few 1911 patterns in 45ACP it would be the time for something a bit different, a 38 Super. Went to the gun show in New Bern this weekend and what do I find on the first table but a Series 80 in 38 Super for $890. After looking it over and a bit of dickering it was mine for $800. Then to top it off I found 200 rounds of 38 Super for less than $100, all in all a nice weekend, now I just have to make a trip to the range for a test drive.

Nice, I want one, I almost have all my .45 1911 roles filled. But the recent trend of talking about .38 supers makes me want one.

Good looking Colt ........Congrats. .38 Super makes it a rare find at that. Looks like it is already set up well for a defensive carry gun.

Very nice. If I get another 1911 I might have to go with a .38 Super myself. Congratulations on the nice find!

    Range Report

Happiness is a warm 1911. Ma Nature finally cooperated with some nice warm weather today so I just had to go to the range. Fired 50 rounds each Magtech and Aguila .38 Super +P through Colt. Been a while since I have been to the range so it looks more like patterns instead groups. Gun performed flawlessly but the two aftermarket 10 round mags I bought last weekend tended to lock back the slide on the ninth round, will have to find better mags or just load with nine. I was a little surprised by the recoil, thought 130gr 9MM bullet would kick less than the 230gr 45ACP but the recoil was just about the same. This one is a keeper and will see duty sometimes as another EDC.
